Borongan City – The capital of the province of Eastern Samar is rocked by strings of burglaries. Recent police data show that these crimes against property were mostly perpetrated coincidentally with national or even local holidays.
On All Souls’ Day, 2nd of November 2018, another burglary case was recorded by the Borongan City Police Department and this time the crime was caught on camera. The victims, residents of Barangay Campesao of said city, stated that it is possible that the suspect was able to enter their residence by means of an unlocked window. Although the victims reported no physical violence, the suspect was nevertheless able to get an undisclosed amount of cash and valuable electronic devices. Police say that these criminal elements usually monitor their victims’ residences days before the actual commission of the crime. The CCTV caught the perpetrator while on the deed of committing the crime and it shows an apparently slender man whose face was covered and wearing a tattoo on his right arm.
There are also reports of burglaries or robberies in Baybay Boulevard this time the perpetrators appear to be a group of teenagers. These notorious elements seem to become more brazen in their exploits and usually attack when important holidays and/or emergencies preoccupy the community. It shows that this year alone there have been multiple reported cases of robberies and burglaries in Borongan.
The City Mayor has not given any comments regarding these unfortunate events. There are even reports that she is currently in the US.
